What a commercial actually costs

Where the money goes on a £45k shoot, line by line, and the three costs most people forget.

Most people ask for a price before they have a script. That is fine: we can give you a range on the first call. But it helps to know where the money goes.

On a typical £45k commercial, roughly a third goes on crew, a fifth on kit and studio, and a fifth on post-production. The rest covers casting, locations, insurance and the production fee.

The three costs people forget are music licensing, usage rights for talent and the extra cutdowns. Ask for all three in the first quote and you will not be surprised later.
